A special collaboration item between WAITING FOR THE SUN and BASE MARK.

WAITING FOR THE SUN is the world's first sustainable concept eyewear brand, based in Paris, France. The brand was founded by Antoine Mocquard and Julien Tual, who worked in the art gallery Colette in Paris and graphic design for Christian Lacroix.

For this special collaboration, we have commissioned colored lenses that are not normally available, and each pair is painted with a one-of-a-kind message.

To ensure maximum comfort, the glasses have been handcrafted by Japanese craftsmen.

The nose pads are different in height compared to regular models, so they don't slip down when worn and can be worn in the correct position. This solves problems unique to Asians, such as eyelashes touching the glasses or the lenses touching the cheeks.

Lens size 51mm

Bridge 23mm

Material: Bioacetate

◯About the material

In the eyewear industry, waste accounts for 70-80% of the total weight of materials involved in the production process. We struggled to find a material that was suitable for sunglasses and would minimize its negative impact on the earth. Cotton, which is primarily used for acetate, was quickly ruled out as a material for WAITING FOR THE SUN because it requires a lot of water to grow.

WAITING FOR THE SUN bioacetate is recyclable. We collect waste from machining and reuse some of it in the manufacturing process of our materials. Our bioacetate is made from wood fiber. Well-managed and successfully cultivated forests contribute to the reduction of greenhouse gases. Growing trees release more oxygen and absorb more CO2 than aging trees.

WAITING FOR THE SUN plastic frames are 100% biodegradable plastic. This bioacetate has been verified and certified (ISO 14855 compliant) by OWS (Organic Waste Systems), an internationally recognized independent laboratory specializing in biodegradability testing.
